This week we joined the Minneapolis Area Association of REALTORS Young Professionals Network at an event where we explored the great communities that make up the Southwest corridor Chanhassen, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka and Chaska.
The talented local panelist included:
Denny Laufenburger, Mayor from Chanhassen
Ronald A. Case, Ed.D – Acting Mayor of Eden Prairie, City Council Member
Terry Schneider – Mayor of Minnetonka
Mark Windschitl – Mayor of Chaska
Dave Lindahl – Economic Development Manager – City of Eden Prairie
Overall all Mayors expressed the constant struggle to having a diverse housing inventory in the their community. Price ranges for all different buyers.
The light rail that is anticipated to come to the suburbs has great interest in home buyers, with data being shown that more showings for homes in
Excelsior has challenges with continuing to encourage young families and smaller units. Currently half the residents live in apartments.
Chanhassen expresses the mercy of the land owners with over 1/4 the town undeveloped. They know there is growth ahead.
Chaska builds an average 100 homes a year. There is currently a 1,000 acres starting to develop.
Minnetonka is focusing on different types of housing to please generation that want less acreage and less lawn maintenance.
Eden Prairie also commented that affordable, entry-level housing is difficult to come by. They do have exciting new projects coming, one is projected for the old Ruby Tuesday that one is another apartment complex with retail.
Overall, it was a success to hear the encouragement of all cities to work together and be thinking of the future in housing.
